Children’s Happy Hospital Fund wanted to help the Play Service to create a relaxing space where young people could feel comfortable and mix with other patients. To create a teenage lounge to help their recovery and to feel at home.
We started with a space which had previously been a bay and still had the remnants of curtain rails and bland colours along with noticeboards and electrics which had been behind beds. It had some new furnishings such as large TV’s, football table and games consoles We were able to use these but needed to update the rest of the area.
Although this was a room that could be used it still felt like a bay waiting to go back to being a hospital bay. We needed to really look at creating a space more like a common room or their lounge at home.
With the help of PwC, League of Friends, DCCS, Army reserves and many others we were able to create a whole new space.
This has now become patients and parents favourite room on Wildgoose Ward. A great way to encourage our teenage patients to leave their beds and start moving around.
